Our Sponsored Athletes: Dylan Cothill

LAST UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2025

When it comes to raw talent and dedication in motorsports, Dylan Cothill is a name that stands out. Dylan has spent decades behind the wheel, mastering the art of racing and drifting with precision and style and recently, has become an MCA sponsored athlete.

His journey began back in 2003, when he started competing professionally in drag racing and gymkhana events. For four years, he pushed his limits on the track, proving himself as a force to be reckoned with. But in 2007, Dylan discovered a whole new passion—drifting. Making the move to the UK, he immersed himself in the high-skill, high-adrenaline world of drift racing, refining his technique and carving out a name for himself in the scene.

Fast forward to today, and Dylan’s list of achievements speaks for itself. He has dominated the GoldRush race for three consecutive years, and in 2024, he even set a new record for the event, beating the previous time by almost two full seconds. A feat like that doesn’t just happen by chance; it’s the result of years of dedication and skill.

Skid Control

Beyond his own racing success, Dylan Cothill is passionate about helping others develop their driving skills. As the director of Skid Control, he leads a business dedicated to advanced driver training, giving enthusiasts and professionals the chance to sharpen their skills behind the wheel.

Skid Control covers multiple driving disciplines, offering hands-on training in skid pan driving, drifting, racing, and gymkhana. Whether you’re looking to refine your racing line, perfect your drift technique, or just gain better control in slippery conditions, Dylan and his team provide expert coaching to take your driving to the next level.

But that’s not all—Skid Control also offers stunt and precision driving services. With a team of highly qualified drivers, they bring professional-grade driving expertise to events. It’s not just about speed; it’s about precision, control, and mastering the art of vehicle handling.

Skid Control X MCA

At Motor Culture Australia, we’re all about promoting a safe and thriving car culture, and our partnership with Skid Control plays a huge role in that mission. Each year, Skid Control teams up with MCA to host an exclusive driver safety and training experience day, giving our staff the opportunity to refine their skills in a safe and controlled environment.

Beyond track training, Skid Control is also a big part of our 4×4 Weekender events. For attendees new to off-road driving, they run dedicated beginner 4×4 sessions, helping drivers gain a solid understanding of maneuvering and handling their vehicles safely on rough terrain. It’s a unique experience that MCA and Skid Control proudly offer, making sure newer 4×4 enthusiasts start their off-road journey with confidence and control.

Of course, Skid Control is also a valuable part of our high-octane events such as Track Festival. Dylan and Kester from Skid Control take things to the next level with on-track entertainment with an absolute spectacle of controlled drifts, powerslides, and pirouettes, wowing the crowd with their precision and skill. It’s a midday show that keeps spectators and members on the edge of their seats.

And for the ultimate display of drifting mastery, we’ve introduced the Drift Invitational Cup—an exciting new event within our track festival, proudly presented by Skid Control. This competition invites Australia’s best drifters to battle it out in a controlled and professional environment, competing for multiple prizes while showcasing their talents on the main stage.

From safety-focused training to adrenaline fuelled exhibitions, the MCA x Skid Control partnership continues to bring the best of both worlds to the automotive community—helping drivers grow, compete, and, most importantly, have fun behind the wheel.
